October 2007

Chubbs has been with us two weeks already!! He is growing up so fast, won’t be long now before he can go into the big boys’ cage. I’m sure he will enjoy the company of the uncles and cousins! Babies are so cute and so much fun. I have pictures that need to be put in the photo album.. Yes Sarah I promise I am getting to those asap LOL

Urns’ abcess is healing well, scabbing nicely and should be completely gone in another week or so. You can;t even tell that Wembley had an abcess or a tumor removal. His fur is mostly grown back in that area.

They are some busy creatures at night. I listened to them play last night, the squeaks and the always present Fergus peeps of protest. I have noticed as he is getting older that he doesn’t want to play as much and gets annoyed easily with the younger fellas who try and make him play. It’s good for the grouch to have to move around a bit more than he would like.

Halloween is just about upon us and this year we seem to be a bit behind getting things up and out for display. It may simply be that we have more going on than normal. The boys will of course be treated to a dinner and something sweet for the occassion. I may have to rehash a tiny vampires post for the day.

OK, so Urn and Wembles both have abcesses, for different reasons of course. Well I was checking them out this afternoon and Urns pretty much looked ready to explode *insert gagging noises here* Took Urn into the bathroom, turned on some warm tap water and put him under it, the abcess is on his back, near the hip area, pretty easy to soak. Well it literally blew apart *gag some more*. Now if you have never had the pleasure of dealing with abcesses, count your blessings for that kids. This thing was full of what looked to be split pea soup with a side of cottage cheese.

Both boys are going to see the vet tomorrow afernoon. I’m having Wembles’ abcess lanced and drained and making sure Urns’ is all cleaned out. I’m sure both will get a nice course of abs for their troubles.

Have I said how much I love rats and all the joys they bring? LOL

Today we have some special birthdays. It’s Vroo and Meef’s 1st birthday. We had a yellow cake with chocolate frosting, I think that’s what Mom said.We enjoyed the cake. And the baby, Chubbs, got some too. Sadly, Vroo’s birthday presents didnt show up in time. A piece of cake will be sent home with Scott for Meef and his crew. Our next birthday won’t be coming up until December.

Keep the snackies coming,
Mr. Wembles

I like this part of the morning. The quiet after I have finsihed everything, right before it’s time to get ready for work. I usually get up to feed my crew at around 7, they know this and are always waiting for the plates LOL. This morning even Chubbs was waiting eagerly, funny how quickly they understand what’s going on and adapt to routine. I love to pet little heads and tweak tiny ears, play with a whisker as they try and box with my fingertips. Later, just as I’m walking out the door, I will reach into the hammies and pet warm rats. I love how they pile up and fall asleep. I usually get a lick or two in appreciation as I scratch an itchy spot. Fergus will always pop a sleepy-eyed face up and peep softly, his way of saying goodbye I suppose. They know I miss them when I’m gone I think.

I love my rats, love their odd ways. It’s in the quiet that I can really sit back and enjoy what wonderful animals they are. I suppose having lived with them for six years or so now, it’s the routine and order they bring, alongside chaos and a flurry of activity, that make them such wonderful furpeople to have around.

So I’m to the place I will call home. It’s interesting here. I have a nice cage, with hammies, warm things to cuddle in. My new mom brought me dinner last night after I was settled a bit, she poured me the bottled water and talked with me for a while. She seems really nice. I was afraid on the ride home, but the girl in the backseat, who I guess is now my sister? was really nice and scritched my ears for most of the drive home. This morning I had oatmeal with warmed vanilla soy milk, it was pretty yummy. I still miss what I knew, but I really think it will be ok here.

They did the weigh ins last night, Im the little kid at 179 grams, the boy closest in size is Hector and he is 593 grams!! They must eat good here!!!! I guess I have quite a bit of growing to do still. I have heard there is a big two-story cage with lots of room when I am big enough. I can’t wait to see that. There are also tales of the Fraggle Uncles, Wembley and his brother Fergus, who rule the Ferret Nation Kingdom.

I’m getting sleepy, it’s daylight and there are dreams to catch. Mom says the hammie is calling my name and she will tuck me in with something to cuddle for the four hours she is gone at work. When she gets home, she said I can play in this octoplay thingie!!! She said I’m a pretty, tiny pumpkin just waiting for Halloween….I think they like me here.

Hugs,
Chubbs
