September 2006

The boys look so cute piled up in the corner. They look like a reverse oreo! The brothers seem fine with Nugi. There was the squeak and protest as he was bullied around a bit after intros were made, but nothing serious. Nugi seems much happier to be with other ratties again. The cage looks fuller, more complete with them all together. I’m quite happy to have a trio to play with. They all love to eat and beg treats at every opportunity.

Yesterday afternoon I thought I would give Wembley a bite of twinkie. Yes I know, not the best treat, but what could a little taste hurt? Well he dived on top the twinkie and dug little claws in, chomping and chewing fast as he could. He had managed to stuff his face into the twinkie before I could pull him off!!! I was laughing and struggling with him and then the other two were awake by this point and looking for a taste of whatever brother seemed so involved with. I managed to get Wembley out of the twinkie and back in the cage where he was immediantly set upon by the other two, curious sniffs and then some serious power grooming.

Its good to have a few rats, they make life very interesting. One thing I learned, dont let them take their own bites of anything. I know that Fergus would have been a bit more dainty, he always is. Nugi loves a snack, so I suspect he would have done the same thing Wembley did. I just wish I had a camera to get a pick of the whole mess, it was hilarious.

The boys are so pudgy! They eat well, love to play and are very lovable. Even Wembley will pass out a kiss or two, but he is nothing of the kisser that Fergus is. Nugi K. is a busy body, but tends to sleep a bit heavier than his brothers. I find that I can poke him in the rump a few times before he will even raise his head to see what the bother is about. They are sweet ratties with such different personalities.

I love to pick the boys up and cuddle and pass out kisses on their soft little heads. They will close their little eyes and seem to sigh in happiness that I have picked them up.

Rats really are wonderful little creatures that deserve respect and love. I’m glad I have made room for them in my life and cant imagine not having a few around to keeo me company.

The boys had a dish of rice mixed with cooked squash this evening. I have never seen a more greedy bunch in my life. They act as though they have never seen food in their lives! Wembley is such a sweetheart, he bruxes the moment your hand brushes against him. I love to pick him up and cuddle. Such handsome boys! Fergus has grown more sweet with time as well, he comes when he is called. Yesterday I called him over to scritch behind his ears and he ran right to me! I was so excited, my babies are getting smarter or maybe they have decided that cooperation with mom is a good thing LOL.

Nugi seems to be getting a bit more comfy with us. He did some wandering around Adriennes bed and sniffed at things. He seemed a bit put off by his breakfast, but Im sure that will change once he realizes that we are the “good people” with nummy foods. He will be much happier once he gets in the cage with the other two ratties. Wembley and Fergus keep a lifestyle that would shame all but the laziest =D.

What Nugi really needs is some constant and consistent one on one time with us. He needs to feel he can trust all of us in this house. Its loud and boisterous around here and Im sure thats something completely new for him as well. He will learn to enjoy all the different foods and playtime that will be available to him, its just being patient and gentle with him. I havent seen him use his hammock yet, but maybe he is still feeling frightened and unsure of things.

We’ll see, but in the meantime he is upstairs alone and I know thats hard for a rat, especially a baby that has never been by himself. It will work out and sooner than he realizes he will be in the big boy cage playing with the other boys!

So we just got back from Sondras house. We adopted SUNS Nugent. He is a Black Berk and very handsome. He will be spending some time alone, getting used to the house routine, just typical QT stuff. He will then get to meet his older brothers! We are looking forward to that, should be alot of fun.
